Somerville/Shore
Good game- Facts of the game
1)Shore was very tenative the first 20 min of game.
2)Shore out played Somerville for 60 Min.
3)Shore had a goal disallowed on an off side call- (Bad Call)
4)Center Ref called a PK then changed mind when went over to side Ref (Stunning)
5) 20 Min of game wasted by Center Ref (This guy inserted himself in game and made it like a football game) Start and Stop- players standing around for 5 Min at a time.
6) Somerville deserved to win, but Shore has nothing to be ashamed of
They had a great run and do deserve a lot of respect for coming together as a team- They beat the Number 1 and 4 Seeds and lost to the #2
7)Great Job Shore Seniors

Roberto Novoa was knocked out this game- Had to go Hospital for Stiches. No call, Ref said he didnt see it.

This report does not surprise me in the least. This is the type of thing that happens every year and makes a good argument for sectional finals to be at a neutral site with three refs chosen out of a pool.

Great job Shore. Heads up you made it to the final.

I agree neutral site needs to happen. I am not a Shore parent. I went to watch the game and the officals were terrible. Had 15 to 20 minuets of wasted time-Ref not knowing what the heck was going on- would stop and talk to coaches in the middle of the game. A direct kick would take 2-3min (Not kidding)

Roberto Novoa had 11 Stiches to put his lip back together. No Call- gave ball to Somerville and they scored second goal. Only reason I bring it up is that Somerville parnets acted like jerks thought he was faking (Yelling at Ref)

Sorry to hear about Novoa - he's quite a talent.

What happened to him that a foul wasn't called? Was it some kind of collision or a cynical foul?

Saw similar things in the Squan Ville game. Non-calls for fouls against Squan (ref just didn't see it even though he was right there) but a 50/50 goes to Ville for their first goal.

To top it off the police were there at the fields giving out parking tickets. Not a good place for a high school match to begin with let alone state cup finals. Hope the player is okay.

Congratulations Shore we KNOW you gave them a good match. .

Matt, you seemed to have talked about the competition level in regards to Schalick's schedule in building up to the game today. I guess it doesn't look like the competition that Schalick faced during the year hurt them too much today, since they handily beat Pt. Beach 5-0.

Also just FYI, Schalick did play a number of games against Group IV, III, and Parochial A teams during the year. According to philly.com they played Parochial A teams Gloucester Catholic (twice) and St. Augustine - Group IV teams Eastern and Williamstown - and Group III teams Kingsway, Moorestown, and Highland. Their schedule also included a number of games against Group II opponents throughout the year. Not bad for a Group I school.

Foul- Two Somerville kids sandwhiched Novoa (did not have Ball-Away from play). Same thing this game Non-Calls for Shore anything 50/50 Somerville. Place was really a mess, Police giving Tickets.
Shore did give them a good match- Game really started to crawl once it became clear that Shore was taking over. It became a very fraustrating game to watch with all the down time.
Good Showing by all Shore Conference Teams- Congrats to all

How soon into the game was this incident?

So it sounds like Novoa was deliberately targeted and Somerville should have played rest of match with 9 players.

Upon further consideration maybe they should be stripped of title.

"How soon into the game was this incident?"

Roberto was taken off about 20 minutes into the second half.

Somerville can keep the title the game is over and they won- I do think the Finals should be played on a neutral site next year and years to come. Sommerville Facilities like a rec program. In the middle of a neighborhood with no parking. Games should be held at neptune, St Rose, RFH, Brunswick Etc..

the ref at the ville-shore game was a moron, he did not know what he was doing, novoa got 11 stitches and he did nothing about it. i think they should really check if these refs know what theyre doing before each season, because some of this refs blow

Very nice article on Shore in Newspaper- Thank You for the support. Shore is a very young team- They had 2 Freshman, 4 Soph and 2 Juniors and 3 seniors Start this season. The team did not have coach until 5 days before the season. Coach Chris did a nice job pulling the kids together. Hopefully the Coach comes back next year so they can keep the progress going. The Rumson Shore games are games that these kids will never forget. Kudos to Rumson your a very good team. Thanks no more to be said until next year.
