Game 1 Live

Manalapan 5, Jackson 0, Final.

Update: Quintano makes it 5-0 with his third goal.

Russo nails a shot from 25 to the right side in the 61st minute and the route is on. 4-0.

Quintano scored 33 seconds later on a breakaway off a missed header to make it 3-0. It's starting to get chippy as Weissman and Quintano just got into a confrontation shortly after the third goal.

Semen beat Tito Nurundeen on a pass from Brandon Russo and put one in the 32nd. Nurundeen, Semen, and Morgans all collided, and Semen got his foot on the ball inside the 18 and poked it in.

George Quintano opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a shot to the near post on the left side from about 20 yards out. Not much Alex Morgans could do on that. Just a perfect shot.

I agree with the last poster that it is unfair to determine anything based on one game. Between Kappock, Lannon, Nurundeen, L.Smith, A.Smith and Russo, the Shore has been blessed with some great defensive talent this year. It is unfair to take Tito out of the discussion with one game.

Was it a struggle tonight for him, yes, but Quintano has gotten the best of a lot of people over the past two years and it is nothing to be ashamed of.

First or second team, what Nurundeen, Morgans and the rest of Jackson accomplished should not be thrown out with one blowout loss.

Georgie is a great offensive player, all agree on that, right? He scores an exceptionally high number of goals too because Manalapan does not have as many 'finishers' as other teams have. So with that said, if the ball only goes to one person all the time, they will obviously have more goals than other teams who disperse the ball and have 3 and 4 players who can finish, right? So then the fact that other teams have more talented offensive players who 'share' the goals and glory doesn't mean that they are less talented, only that there are more finishers on the team and they share the wealth. With this said, an 'all shore 1st team' should best be picked by watching the actual "talent" of all of those involved against the actual competition...playing easy teams and running up stats should not count, it should be determined on the skill of the team playing against. Jackson had a tough one against Manalapan, and if they played in A-North, clearly the cream of the crop when it comes to competition, you would see a huge difference in players coming across very strong competition, no? Throwing people out in regards to 'one game' as noted is in fact imperative because of the fact that in the Shore, A-north has alot of talent, so why should players in that division lose out on glory to players from a lower level of competition? hmmmm something to think about, right? And Quintano has gotten the best of alot of people it is true, BUT NOT in A-north, he is one of the better players, but against A-North teams, unless there is a fluke (like the Freehold game where their team was in mental shambles), Quitano does no better than the other leading scorers in A-north, but out of A-north he is a scoring machine, kind of like Mackin of monmouth, great in bad competition, but in a-north, nothing scored. Think about it reasonably, why should A-North kids get the boot off of 1st team because you do better in a lousy division? Fair is fair. Quitano is great--in A-North he is One Of MANY GREATS

In response to the above comment:
I agree Manalapan and Howell are in another level. But to say the other teams in A-North are superior to A-South is wrong. Also anyone that knows the Jackson team does know that last night was a little bit of a fluke as far as the amount of goals scored. Defenders running into each other, players slipping on the wet turf and a golkeeper slipping all led to goals. Also I would like to point out a majority of A-North teams have small fields. Perhaps you should take that into consideration. How many A-North defenders got stuck playing George on a legit sized field, where he had plenty of room to work, use his strength and speed. The kid himself even said it in the papers. Finally I'd like to say, I think even the Manalapan players would admit that they played one heck of a game last night, far above any effort they had during most of the regular season. This why I don't think it is time to throw some stats out the window. A-North is very good but Freehold, CBA, Midd North, Marlboro would not be automatic division champs.

before everyone is so quick to say that A-South isn't even close to A-North you should all know Brick memorial who had a below .500 record in A-South just beat Freehold Twp.

Freehold had a key player injured. Please don't leave that fact unpublished.

Jackson down right looked bad in semis. Three shots on goal and very few pass combinations. I thought the bench was in the entire game.

I think All-Shore first team selection should take into consideration the consistency of a player. Some have good starts and then fizzle at the end (like a late season scoring drought for a forward). Some have poor starts and come on strong at the end, which is more impressive but not consistent. Stellar performance throughout the season, is for sure ALL-Shore (and quite a few boys qualify).

Noesges didn't play for FT, and it made all of the difference. Add Noesges to that FT attack and it would have been a blowout. Brick Memorial had two chances and scored on both of them, FT clearly had the better of play and just lost to a hot goalkeeper in PKs.

To add to that last comment... Freehold played both Brick and Memorial without Noesges and tied both of them, I don't think those games can be considered any sort of victory in the A-North v. A-South argument.

umm ok..why is that every Monmouth County team except for Howell and Manalapan have an excuse for everything

Playing without your best offensive player is a little bit more than an "excuse".

Did Freehold have a player injured when the lost to the Boro?? At least Jackson's blowout loss was to a legit team. By the way Jackson beat Midd North 2-0 a while ago. TRE beat Colts Neck too. Unless you play for Howell or Pan you would not win A-South.

Jackson was an embarassment to the SCT semi's. They just did not belong. It was quite ugly.
